1. Course Number: CE  411      Course Title:  Introduction to GIS

2. Catalog Description (2001-2003):

Introduces vector, radter, and tabular concepts, emphasizing the vector approach.  Topics include: spatial relationships, map features, attributes, relational database, layers of data, data ingesting, digitizing from maps, projections, output, applications, and availability of public data sets.

 

3. Prerequisites or parallel: Senior standing or approval of instructor.

 

4. Text: Getting to Know ArcView GIS

 

5.  Course Educational Objectives:

To give students the opportunity to learn about geographic information systems and their use in engineering and science as well as the knowledge to use GIS to complete research studies.
